The number of words to write is from 500 to 750.
This essay is worth 40% of your grade.

How to write a summary!

I'm giving you some tips on how to write a summary, you task number two on your writing tasks. Remeber is due on next week.

Remember to summarize the text you've read. Use the following tips:
1) Shorten the text in such a way that all facts are in the summary. Leave out examples, evaluations and interpretations.
2) Skim the text. You should know what is the main content of it. Read the headline carefully. It is important.
3) Read the text again to understand more details. You must have understood the whole text.
4) Make notes (use keywords). Underline important words in the text.
5) Form sentences with the help of your keywords. These sentences should reflect the main content of the text.
6) Connect the sentences using suitable conjunctions. The first sentence should describe the main content of the text.
7) Use Simple Present or Simple Past. Write sentences in Reported speech.
8) Sometimes you have to change the persons.
9) Check your summary. Watch out for spelling mistakes.

Examples on how to create your sentences for a summary.

Language Portfolio

A portfolio is a file in which you bring together diverse materials on a theme. It is a collection of key materials related to your own development and should reflect your progress as a student. To keep the portfolio meaningful and easy to use:

- Divide it into sections
- Create a table of contents
- Label everything
- Keep it updated

You should open your portfolio with an overview of it and with the explanation of its purposes for including the things in it. Each section of the portfolio usually includes its own introductory part.

Examples:
*This document is a compilation of qualifications of language, skills and proves of events where the language is practiced.

*This portfolio holds a list of the different language skills and the proficiency in each one of them.

*This document aims to prove the progress and might help to improve the weak areas.

Part 1: Reflecting as a student.
Who I am as a student?
- What kind of student am I?
- What kind of student would I like to be?
- What are the issues that are important for me as student?
- What is my understanding of the areas I study (e.g. grammar, speaking, etc)?

Part 2: Evidences

Whenever you complete an activity celebrate your success and reflect on it; give yourself credit for what you have done.
Note down what happened and use it as an example of what can happen when you focus your energy.
How to reflect on you learning?
Write about the process you go through in order to achieve a goal. What you found easy or difficult to do, how you tackle it, your strategies, what worked best and what did not, what you realized while doing this activity, and your plans to do better on the next activity.
